American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector Course

OBJECTIVES : QA/QC Personnel

  1. Understanding the welding inspection requirements by codes and specifications.
  2. Testing requirements and make WPS/PQR as per the requirements.
  3. Understanding the welding metallurgy.
  4. Understanding the occurrence and locating the defects and discontinuity in welds.

WELDERS / GRINDERS :

  1. Understanding the requirements of codes for good welding practice.
  2. Familiarity with WPS and PQR.
  3. Welding defects and locating the defects.
  4. Practical tips for doing welding, like electrical parameters, hand movement, selection of rod, temperature, etc.
  5. Good grinding practice for defect detection.

Faculty: ASNT LEVEL III, BE-Metallurgy, Highly experienced.
Welding Trainer: 30-34 years Experience

COURSE DETAILS :

  1. Welding course will be based on ASME SEC IX specifically but will also include AWS and ASME sec VIII guidelines.
  2. Modules will be Welding inspection and certification
  3. Safe practices for welding inspectors
  4. Metal joining and cutting process
  5. Weld joint geometry and welding symbols
  6. Welding metallurgy and weld metal discontinuities
  7. Visual inspection and other NDT methods
  8. WPS/PQR as per ASME SEC IX
  9. Welding process at your works and improvement scopes.
  10. Case studies as per your scope of work.

On job welding training by experienced welding trainers.

Dash conducts every month training’s for AWS.

Exam is conducted second week of every month.

Certification/Awarding Body:
Course Objectives:
To understand factors which influence the quality of fusion welds in steels

  • To recognise characteristics of commonly used welding processes in relation to quality control
  • To interpret drawing instructions and symbols to ensure that specifications are met
  • To set up and report on inspection of welds, macrosections and other mechanical tests
  • To assess and report on welds to acceptance levels
  • To confirm that incoming material meets stipulated requirements and recognise the effects on weld quality of departure from specification
  • To be in a position to pass the Welding Inspector – Level 2 examinations

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Welding Inspector for a minimum of 3 years with experience related to the duties and responsibilities listed in Clause 1.2.2 of CSWIP document WI-6-92, under qualified supervision, independently verified ORCertified Visual Welding Inspector (Level 1) for a minimum of 2 years with job responsibilities in the areas listed in 1.2.1 and 1.2.2 of CSWIP document WI-6-92 ORWelding Instructor or Welding Foreman/Supervisor for a minimum of 5 years.

Note: Prior ASME code experience is recommended before taking this course. For individuals without prior ASME code experience, it is highly recommended that the DASH Introduction to Pressure Equipment Codes course be taken in advance.

 

*CLA courses include a mandatory self-guided online portion that must be completed before the course start date and self-study material after the course.

 

Objectives

To achieve the CSA W178.2 Level 1 Welding Inspector Certification, and by reciprocity, also achieve the AWS Certified Associate Welding Inspector accreditation. It is also the objective of this course to prepare exam candidates to write the ASME B31.3 code endorsement exam as part of this certification.

Each participant will receive a certificate with 4.0 Continuing Education Units accredited by the International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET).
