Candidates seeking the API 1104 endorsement shall pass an open book written examination consisting of 60 multiple choice questions in two hours. Candidates must use the API 1104 Welding of Pipelines and Related Facilities to answer the questions. Candidates may not use photocopied versions of the standard unless they can supply evidence of purchase of the document. Successful candidates must correctly answer 72% of the questions to receive this endorsement. Re-examinations for this endorsement shall be in accordance with section 6.2.5 of AWS QC1.
The course is suitable for candidates with or without experience in industrial painting or inspection and will also be applicable to those who require knowledge of painting inspection but do not wish to take an examination. Most of the paint systems used in industry are addressed plus awareness is given of other coating systems used for anti-corrosion reasons. The course content is largely theoretical but involves hands on experience with relevant inspection equipment.
