What is Galvanizing?

Galvanizing is the process of inter-metallic bonding between steel with zinc, resulting in a corrosion-resistance protection of up to 50 years. It is one of the most widely-used and effective methods of corrosion protection.

Galvanized steel is used in various industries including road, rail, energy plants, oil and gas, agriculture, sports and construction. It can play an important role for buildings, bridges, facades, signal gantries, storage containers, gates, balconies, or even sculptures. Wherever there is a risk for corrosion of steel, galvanizing should be used.

We are committed to total customer satisfaction, by maintaining excellent quality coupled with expeditious delivery and personalized services and support.

Electrogalvanizing

Electrogalvanizing is a process in which a layer of zinc is bonded to steel in order to protect against corrosion. The process involves electroplating, running a current of electricity through a saline/zinc solution with a zinc anode and steel conductor. Zinc electroplating maintains a dominant position among other electroplating process options, based upon electroplated tonnage per annum. Electroplating is primarily used to change the surface properties of an object (e.g. abrasion and wear resistance, corrosion protection, lubricity, aesthetic qualities, etc.), but may also be used to build up thickness on undersized parts or to form objects by electroforming

Electroplating is widely used in various industries for coating metal objects with the thin layer of a different metal. It provides the most cost effective and economical way to protect your parts against corrosion.

Compared to hot dip galvanizing, electroplated zinc offers these significant advantages:
1. Lower thickness deposits to achieve comparable performance
2. Broader conversion coating availability for increased performance and colour options
3. Brighter, more aesthetically appealing, deposits

Properties of Galvanized Steel

resistance

Corrosion Resistance

According to the Galvanizers Association, galvanized steel resists corrosion up to 100 times better than uncoated steel.

resistance

Surface Appearance

All galvanized steel has a matte-gray appearance. Zinc coating applied by using electro-galvanizing is smoother than galvanized steel made with batch or continuous galvanizing and allows for a higher quality finish when painted.

resistance

Formability

The zinc coating on galvanized steel is resistant to cracking and loss of adhesion when the steel is formed into a product.

resistance

Durability

The zinc coating does not require special handling to protect it during transport or use. It is extremely durable and resistant to scratches from abrasion.

resistance

Recyclable

Steel is by far the most recycled material in North America. Galvanized steel is as recyclable as other types of steel.

Cold Galvanizing

Cold Galvanizing is the process of painting steel structures and exteriors with Zinc - rich paints. Cold galvanizing or Zinc painting is the application (by brush or spray) of Zinc dust mixed with organic or inorganic binders. Zinc-rich paints can be applied to structural steel and piping which are exposed to a wide range of corrosive atmospheric environments like refineries, power plants, bridges, buildings, mining equipment etc. The Zinc dust in paint is integrated with organic binders. These binders allow the Zinc particles to remain in contact with each other so the Zinc paint can provide cathodic protection. Zinc protects structures from corrosion by cold galvanizing.
